Serious riding today, and absolutely soaking wet. We are staying at the Bridge Cafe in Brecon - excellent service and accomodation. We rode down the towpath to Talybont, then right up the Talybont reservoir. We cut right up the slope towards Bryniau. At the top it was cold and windy. Only a few sheep for company. The descent to the woods was very good. Large eroded ruts and deep puddles. Into the woods and drop down to the Dolygaer activity centre. Some of us were suffering brake failure by now. Colin got too cold and took the shortcut back along the reserviour again. Then right up the road towards and then up the Gap climb 600m high. The weather cleared a little and it stopped raining for a bit, Pen y Fan was there to be seen, before it closed in again. The Gap climb was good for me as I warmed up nicely. But after waiting for Ralph nearly 15 minutes I was freezing for the descent again. A rocky track with technical bits especially with so much rain. It was fast and bumpy.

I fell off a few times, but the problem of the day was brake pad wear. Ralphs bike lost the front brake completely. Neil and Mike's pads were shot and grinding metal. My "rubbish" Giant brakes were fine. Or perhaps they are not rubbish, just not shimano. Everyone has shimano now. I remember when they fisrt did bike parts back in the early 80s. they were called "shimanogo" as they failed a lot.

Great day. Great company. Tough a old boots. Roaring fire and organic tea and cakes back at the cafe. Superb.
